"down

down on his luck

spent his last buck

begging and borrowing

to cover tomorrowing

moved south of the border

affairs more in order

awaiting a settlement

vision of betterment

one likely lad

future looked trad

a kid and a wife

all set in life

commercial career

flew far and near--

but sickness took hold

lost his wealth cold

dried out his friends—

all patience ends--

how long has he got?

is this now his lot?

supporters all gone-

remaining-- just one--

left with the dross--

but who gives a toss?

(I do) "
