Not a peony

"Not a peony

Not a peony I,

Bold magenta

In lonely majesty,

But rather a common daisy

Plain and unremarkable;

Protect me lest I be trampled underfoot.

And not a lighthouse I,

Tall and white on the horizon

Commanding attention and respect,

But rather a humble cottage

Private and cosy,

Come warn yourself at my hearth.

And not a prairie stallion I,

Magnificent and free

Bucking and bolting at will,

But rather an old farm horse,

Plodding familiar paths

In domestic security."
