Be Fruitful and Multiply

This work, depicting female reproductive organs, is inspired by the exhortation in Genesis 1: 28, "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it...”

 

It occurred to me that every woman has a uterus, a womb, the defining organ of femaleness, but we never see our own or anyone else’s womb. Yet each one must be unique, different. 

 

My thought here was to represent many women each by her unique uterus, and I turned the Biblical instruction around- instead of Pru urevu- i.e. have many children- I am representing many wombs.
